An early Scottish brass striking lantern clock
Humphrey Mills. Circa 1665
The case of typical form with plain pierced brass gallery frets to the side, the front fret engraved Humphrey Mills, urn finials to each angle supporting the bell straps, the dial with simple Roman chapter ring with inner minute markings, single steel hand, the centre tightly engraved with leaves intertwining four symmetrical rosettes, the two train movement with restored verge and balance wheel for the going train, countwheel for the strike train, lacking rear plate and later doors
