THE PRIVATE COLLECTION OF MISS JULIA LOWENTHAL SOLD ON BEHALF OF THE GUIDE DOGS FOR THE BLIND ASSOCIATION (LOTS 50-190) The splat design of the chairs in the two following lots is derived in part from a pattern published in Robert Manwaring's The Chair-Maker's Guide, 1766, plate 38. The fluted stiles and serpentine top rail are also derived from a pattern published by Manwaring in his 1765 pattern-book, The Cabinet and Chair-Maker's Real Friend and Companion, plate 5.
