This form of stamp of 'GILLOW' was in use by Gillows of London and Lancaster by the 1850s (S. Stuart, 'Gillow Marks, Labels and Stamps 1770-1960', Regional Furniture, 1998). A sketch for a chamber writing-table with turned legs is recorded in Gillows' Estimate Sketch Book, no. 3839, dated 1831 (Westminster City Archive).
