The curved tablet toprail centred by an anthemion flanked by confronted griffins issuing foliate scrolls, above a pierced horizontal splat and a caned seat with loose squab cushion covered in lemon and ivory striped watered silk, on ring-turned tapering legs and gently outsplayed feet, previously with a drop-in seat

Lot Essay

The tablet bas reliefs of 'Apollo' griffins emerging from palm-flowered acanthus, derive from those on an Egyptian table supplied around 1805 for Thomas Hope's Duchess Street mansion museum and illustrated in his guide Household Furniture and Interior Decoration, 1807 (pl. 15).
