O.H. Supono was born in was born in Surabaya, East Java in 1937. He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Surakarta, Central Java. In 1981 the Jakarta Academy sponsored an exhibition of his works at the Taman Ismail Marzuki Art Centre. As a diligent and creative painter, Supono hase gone beyond figurative and abstract themes. In the past few years his paintings have been inspired by the greatness of the ancien Borobudur Temple in Central Java, whose reliefs are full of religious and philosophical themes.
