**A MASSIVE GERMAN SILVER MOUNTED IVORY TANKARD
Maker's mark possibly CB, Hanau, 19th century
On a domed silver foot with crimped edge, repoussé and chased with a border of baroque strapwork, fruit and cherubs, the ivory body carved with a Bacchic procession beneath scrolling foliage, the silver mount with repoussé and chased decoration as on the foot, with female figures, surmounted by a cherub finial, the scroll handle formed as a female monopode, with a scroll thumbpiece, marked to base and lid, 45 cm. (17¾ in.) high
