This work was used for the cover of the 'Shilling Guide' for Derbyshire and Staffordshire, published by ShellMex and BP Ltd.
"At the centre of grimy furnaces and hoses stands the Potteries Museum, Stoke-on-Trent, as the symbol of the more refined products for which Staffordshire is famous. On the right as you look at the cover is the duet of Josiah Wedgewood, next to a blue jasper-ware vase and mug of 'spit ware', decorated by spitting tobacco juice at the wet glaze. To the left stands James Brindly, builder of the Grand Trunk Canal, on which the county's prosperity was largely founded. Two of Staffordshire's most famous writers were Dr Sammuel Johnson, born at Litchfield and Isaac Walter, whose Complete Angler, typifies the more rural aspect of the county."
