Sandifort is considered of comparable stature to Morgagni. "A pupil of Albinus, as well as his successor to the chair of anatomy and surgery at the University of Leiden, Sandifort directed his efforts to the development and perfection of the anatomy of disease and is sometimes called the father of pathological iconography. These volumes encompass a collection of theses and letters drawn from the works of Sandifort's contemporaries covering medicine, surgery, anatomy, pathology, and botany. The twenty-five folding copperplate engravings are of special interest" [Heirs of Hippocrates]
