Lot Essay

The iron screw steamer Ardlethen was built for Adam & Co. of Aberdeen by the Sunderland Shipbuilding Co. in 1883. Registered [in Aberdeen] at 1,539 tons gross (975 net), she measured 249 feet in length with a 34 foot beam and was equipped with Hawks, Crawshay engines manufactured in Newcastle.
