Lying in Twickenham, Middlesex (EHD) except for lots 1 to 7, 19 to 22, 59, 63 to 64, 66, 77 and 84 to 86 which are all lying at Christie's South Kensington and are available for collection only
The following lots 1 to 117, recently removed from a temperature and humidity-controlled private cellar in France, being a small and selected portion from a larger collection of considerable size and quality. Many of the older bottles have been purchased directly from Christie's own wine sales in London over recent years, whilst the majority of the younger vintageS have been sourced from impeccable domestic supplieRs. All five first-growth Châteaux are represented ranging from the legendary Lafite 1870 through to the superb 2000 vintage from Latour, Mouton and Haut-Brion, also Château Margaux from 1961 - 1998. Château Pétrus is well represented by no less than 15 vintages, including 1945, 1953, 1961 and 1982. The collection concludes with a dazzling array from DRC featuring all the Domaine's Grand Crus with vintages ranging from 1922 to 2001
CHATEAU LAFITE
Château Lafite-Rothschild--Vintage 1870
Pauillac, 1er cru classé. Château-bottled
Irregular shaped hand-blown bottle, sloping shoulder. Re-corked by the Château in 1983. Replacement Château capsule. Original label, applied to lower half of bottle. Level is equal to base of neck
Tasting note: Eucalyptus on the palate; dry, its fine flavour matching the bouquet, wonderful length, still buoyed up by its original tannins. *****. M.B. (June 2001)
