Lot Essay

Grolier: "Semmelweis's discovery of the etiology and prevention of childbed fever was of the greatest importance in saving the lives and preventing suffering of women in childbirth. His major finding was that the carrying of infective material from dissecting rooms to the delivery room was the major source of the problem." The second work is an open letter to his critics.
