PRICED WITH BUYERS' NAMES in a contemporary hand, ruled in red. John Brand secretary to the Society of Antiquaries, was author of Observations on Popular Antiquities. He amassed an enormous library which included books printed by Caxton, Wynkyn de Worde and Pynson, although "he hardly even spent more than a few pence for his purchases" (De Ricci).
