His remarkable library was dispersed after his death" (De Ricci). A note on the blank leaf preceding part III, dated 1855 at Woodlands (S. Leigh Sotheby's country house) and signed "A.L.S." recalls the sale en bloc sale of part III to be "one of the most profitable bargains that they ever met with. I have always entertained the highest respect and liberality of feeling towards our friends, Mess. Christie & Mansion [sic], though I do maintain their connection and mode of conducting Book Sales is never advantageous to such Property when entrusted to their care, even under the auspices & management of the great Leviathan Payne & Foss." De Ricci, pp. 114-115.
