Slade was an outstanding patron of the arts in Victorian England. He established professorships for the study of the arts at Oxford, Cambridge and London, and bequeathed his remarkable collection of glass to the British Museum, to which he also gave selections from his collections of prints, manuscripts, and early bindings; the remainder was dispersed through the above sale, which realized £5,718.4.0.
