Contemporary blue straight grained morocco, front cover with gilt title within gilt double fillet, flat spine gilt (rear hinge split). Provenance: John Ashburnham (inscribed to him by his brother on the front fly-leaf).

This highly important collection comprised, amongst other bibliophile gems, no less than 24 Caxtons, two copies of the Gutenberg or Mazarine Bible (lot 436, one copy printed on vellum), a Biblia-Pauperum (lot 419) and a copy of the 1462 Bible (lot 437, printed on vellum). Without the "Books having been found imperfect", 13 December 1898.
