Two volumes bound in one, 8o (246 x 180 mm). 72 plates, some folding, 4 in gold and colors including the frontispiece. Modern red buckram, original wrappers bound in.
Mensing was the owner of the Amsterdam firm of Frederik Muller & Co., originally auctioneers of books but under him also of works of art. He himself formed one of the finest European libraries of his time, consisting of illuminated manuscripts, early printed and illustrated books and fine bindings. Sold during economic depression, the prices realized were low: by far the highest price recorded was £1,350 for Bidpay's Fables, Ulm, 1483 (now in the Rosenwald Collection in whose catalogue the provenance is not mentioned).
