Mostly PRICED in a contemporary hand. La Condamine was one of three principal scientists who explored the equator of South America. For ten years he measured one of the arcs of the meridian, and helped to prove Newton's theory of the shape of the Earth. His collection reflects his interests in travel and natural history.
