PRICED in pencil and ink in a contemporary hand. This is Chardin's last sale. According to De Ricci, Sir Thomas Phillipps bought upwards of 120 manuscripts at it. In their preface to the catalogues the De Bures state that suffering and ill health had prevented Chardin from arranging the sale of all his books, and suggested that a posthumous sale of the remainder was to be expected soon, but this never took place.
