DIDOT, Pierre (1761-1853), l'aîné. Catalogue des livres, la plupart en papier vélin, composant la bibliothèque de M. P. Didot l'Aîné, ancien imprimeur du Roi. Paris: Debure Frères for M. Voisin, 18 December 1823.
8o (212 x 134 mm). Original grey wrappers.
According to the preface, the catalogue consisted principally of the books printed by Ambroise (François-Ambroise) Didot (1730-1804) and his son and successor Pierre (1761-1853); both were called "l'aîné," having been the eldest of their generation of Didots. The latter sold these books on his retirement in 1822, but survived for another thirty-one years. The catalogue is therefore equivalent to a bibliography of their output from the 1780s to 1822, specifying the paper and the number of copies on which they were printed, if large or fine paper. Some of the books were bound by Bozérian l'Aîné. There were also books by other contemporary printers, especially Bodoni. The 127 books in the supplement obviously belonged to another consignor. Blogie II, col. 36 (one copy, also unpriced); Jammes, Les Didot, No. 210.
[Laid-in:] "Biographie Nouvelle des Contemporains." (Paris, 1822). 8o. 8 pages. Unbound. Extract from vol. VI, containing the articles on François-Ambroise, Pierre-François, (Pierre) l'aîné, Firmin, and Henri Didot.
