8o (205 x 132 mm). Contemporary green half calf and marbled boards.

Vivant-Denon, artist, engraver and illustrator, was member of Bonaparte's retinue on his Egyptian campaign. He furnished 150 drawings for the Description de l'Egypte, and was director of Napoleon's museums who created him Baron. On the fall of the Empire he retired, devoting himself to the enrichment of his vast collections which on his death were dispersed in a number of sales. The above catalogue offers his collection of engravings (lots 1-608, comprising several thousand sheets), and his art-historical library. At end a "Table alphabétique des noms de peintres, graveurs et auteurs" of sixteen columns. Although the small supplement of 66 lots is not present, the very scarce list of price results gives short titles of all lots from which can be gathered the contents of the supplement, the most important item of which was the Description de l'Egypte which realized 1,480 frs. Lugt No. 11,353.
