BERTIN, Armand (1801-1854) -- Catalogue des livres, estampes et dessins. Paris: J. Techener, 4 May 1854.
Two parts in one volume, 8o (228 x 142 mm). Lithographed folding plate of a "Fanfare" binding at end (somewhat foxed). Contemporary half calf, marbled sides (some wear).
PRICED in a contemporary hand. Bertin, editor-in-chief of the "Journal des Débats" inherited from his father, was one of the first French collectors paying attention to first editions, especially those of the seventeenth century. G. Brunet praises his taste and gives a long list of the most valuable books and their realized prices, but J.-C. Brunet, in the same year 1860 (Manuel I, 1643) asserts that not all the books in the sale had belonged to Bertin. Escoffier, No. 255 (stating that this is one of the first catalogues in which Techener mentioned first editions).
