Berlin: Bratring, 13 December 1819.
Small 8o (161 x 94 mm). (Inner blank margin of title slightly defective.) Contemporary marbled boards. Provenance: Berlin, Royal Prussian Library (red library and de-accession stamps on blank verso of title).
1,627 lot sale catalogue of the library of the celebrated Romantic poet and novelist, brother of Bettina von Arnim, and friend of Goethe. As Folter points out, next to the collections of Gottsched and Schwabe, this is one of the earliest catalogues principally devoted to German and popular literature, the latter being represented in a completeness never offered again; it may be assumed that the arrangement and few but excellent annotations to the books are by Brentano himself. A large portion of the lots were acquired by Meusebach and Nagler and eventually found their way into the Royal Prussian Library in Berlin. Folter 113.
