KUPPITSCH, Mattäus (1797-1849) -- Catalogue d'une collection précieuse de livres parfaitement bien conserveés... Halle: J.F. Lippert, 16 March 1846.
8o ( 231 x 144 mm). Modern boards, uncut.
The catalogue includes 7,750 lots. Kuppitsch was the most important Viennese antiquarian bookseller of his time. In 1849 he was appointed Imperial and Royal Court antiquarian bookseller and was awarded by Emperor Ferdinand, the king of Prussia and Pope Pius IX gold and silver medals for arts and sciences. "He limited his researches and collections not only to books, but included rare manuscripts and old paintings, principally those of the German school, codices on vellum, such as the so-called Horae" (Wurzbach). In 1846 he was granted the right to publish books which may have induced him to dispose of his stock and/or private collections anonymously at a sale held far away from Vienna; the vast array, described in French, was rich in works of bibliography, natural history, theology and illustrated books of all periods.
