8o (215 x 138 mm). Contemporary brown half cloth, and marbled boards by Ortmayer, Munich. Provenance: Dr. Moriz Grolig, Vienna (bookplate).

Catalogue of the vast Döllinger Library, consisting of 18,500 titles (c. 25,000 volumes), offered here en bloc; Döllinger was one of the most influential Catholic theologians and historians of the 19th-century who, as an opponent of the dogma of papal infallibility, was excommunicated in 1871, but continued to occupy prominent positions in Bavaria. In 1895 the library was acquired by the Munich University Library and incorporated as a special collection, although almost half of the books were duplicates. Blogie V, col. 93.
