No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VA… 显示更多 THE GAINSBOROUGH SILK WEAVING COMPANY ARCHIVE The Gainsborough Silk Weaving Company Ltd, of Sudbury , Suffolk, was founded in 1903 by Mr Reginald Warner. The company always specialised in top quality silks and velvets and expanded rapidly, moving in 1925 to their Newton Road premises. The company have supplied many prestigious clients, including Her Majesty the Queen. The company also wove the miniature damasks for the Queens Doll's House under the direction of Sir Edward Lutyens. Many private homes are distinguished by their choice of Gainsborough's fabrics as are well known buildings including The Houses of Parliament, Apsley House, Lancaster House and Marlborough House and many National Trust properties. The lots sold here formed part of the Company's archive both of silks they had woven and also documents which had inspired them through the decades. Also sold is their textile libary, from which the company designers also drew inspiration. Sold with the library are note books and order books of the company and photographic records of the factory.
