Fendi studied in Vienna with Fischer, Maurer and Lampi. In 1836 he became a member of the Academy of Fine Arts. He designed Imperial cabinets, antiquities and medals. Many of his works are in private collections, but Riga Museum and the Kuntshistorisches Museum hold several of his oeuvres.
