HEINSIUS, Nicolaus (1620-81) -- Johannes de VIVIE. Bibliotheca Heinsiana ... publicam faciet auctionem ... ad diem lunae 15. Martii anni 1683 ... & sequentes. Leyden: [Abraham Elzevier for] Johannes de Vivie, 1682.
12o (151 x 91 mm), 2 parts in one volume. Final leaf of each part blank, printer's woodcut device on title. Contemporary Dutch blind-stamped vellum. Provenance: the original owner of this catalogue evidently attended the sale, marking prices in the margins and doing some calculations on the endpapers.
ORIGINAL AUCTION ISSUE OF THIS IMPORTANT CATALOGUE. The library was so large and famous and Heinsius's reputation as a textual scholar so great that the auctioneer continued to sell the catalogue as a reference book well after the sale had taken place; three subsequent issues of the same sheets have been identified, with variant titles, occasionally a portrait, and the prices realized usually supplied in manuscript. FINE COPY.
