Engraved frontispiece by Pranker after Taylor, 54 plates, one partially coloured (some spotting and light browning). Contemporary calf (rebacked, corners repaired, worn). Provenance: Henry Willemont, July 7th, 1767 (owner's inscription on pastedown) -- Johannes Symmons Arm (armorial bookplate) -- Columbia University, Avery Library (bookplate).
FIRST EDITION of this work, comissioned by Webley from this group of then little-known artists, and including the first published designs of Columbani and Milton. Many of the chimney-piece designs show portraits above them, two of which are of Inigo Jones (plates 24 and 26) and one possibly of Wren (plate 25). Archer 362.1; Harris 158; RIBA 4014.
