Thinly potted with slightly rounded sides rising to a lobed rim cut with six notches, the interior freely carved with a scrolling stem bearing small ovate leaves and three blossoms, two of triangular form, the other shown in profile, all against a roulette-stippled ground, covered with a transparent glaze of pale blue tone

Three Qingbai bowls with similar carved decoration, thought to have been produced at the Nanfeng kilns in Jingdezhen, were recovered from a tomb dated to 1108, along with eighteen other qingbai wares. See Chen Dingrong, 'Jiangxi Jinxi Song Sun Dalang mu', Wenwu, 1990:9, p. 15, fig. 2:3 and p. 16, no. 5. Two other qingbai bowls of similar shape and with similar designs include one in the Carl Kempe Collection and one in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, both illustrated by J. Wirgin, Sung Ceramic Designs, vol. II, Stockholm, 1970, pls. 13a and 13b, respectively.
