Lot Essay

A Jiajing-marked dish with a turquoise glaze on the exterior only is illustrated by J. Harrison-Hall, Ming Ceramics in the British Museum, London, 2001, p. 250, no. 9:79, where the glaze is described as somewhat uneven, which is true of the glaze on the present dish. The unusual incised decoration on this dish, combined with the turquoise glaze appears to be quite rare.
