A Gold Nashiji Itomaki Tachi Koshirae with Shichiyo Kikko Crests
Late Muromachi-Momoyama period (16th century)
The matching shakudo nanako mounts comprising; kabutogane, fuchi, ashi-kanamono, taikogane, semekanamono and ishizuki-kanamono, all decorated with bamboo and sparrows in gold uttori-zogan; a simple black-copper aoi tsuba with o-seppa; black-copper menuki of a bird and foliage with gilt details; the saya nashiji lacquer with shichiyo kikko crests in gold hiramaki-e, the hilt and the center wrapped in silk bands in beige with scrolling vines in gold, also wrapped in pale-brown strings in a diagonal pattern

With a certificate of registration designating this set as Juyo tosogu (Important Sword Fitting) issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai (Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword)

The simple design of the fittings, the squared kabutogane and ishizuki and the relatively slender scabbard are all indications that this is an early mounting. It is rare to find such an early set of mountings intact.
