(20th century), signed Koryusai Mitsuharu koku (carved by Koryusai Mitsuharu [Katsura Mitsuharu (1871-1962)])
Of compressed ovoid form carved with soft-metal butterflies finished in patinas of shakudo, shibuichi, copper and gilt, incised signature on one side of vase, stamped on underside jungin (pure silver) and Hattori sei (made by Hattori)

With wood box inscribed on underside of lid Guncho no zu (Design of swarming butterflies), signed Katsura Mitsuharu koku and sealed Mitsuharu

Mitsuharu opened his own metalwork shop in Tokyo's Asakusa district in 1882 after an apprenticeship under Toyokawa Mitsunaga II (1851-1923), a notable maker of sword fittings.
