Serov graduated from Leningrad's Academy of Art and was presented with the State Stalin Award in 1948., followed by the State Prize of the USSR in 1951. A People's merited Artist of Russia, his works are included in the Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian Museum, Museum of the Revolution and other museum collections. He was nominated President of the Art Academy in 1960.
