Sampson from his old friend & colleague the Author Dec. 27, 1893" (vol. 2). E.F. Sampson was Dodgson's fellow-mathematical lecturer at Christ Church, his frequent companion and close friend. From 1877 to 1894 Sampson was Censor of Christ Church. Williams and Madan 187, 216. (2)
