2 volumes, 2o (299 x 204 mm and 288 x 202 mm). Engraved frontispieces by Balbas, title printed in red and black, printed in two columns. Contemporary limp vellum, spine boldly horizontally ink lettered, leather ties (light staining to covers, lower joint of second volume cracked). Provenance: Joseph Manuel et Manti (early ownership inscription on dedication leaf).
FIRST EDITION. Jose Antonio Villasenory y Sanchez, a Mexican geographer, studied in the College of San Ildefonso, and was employed as comptroller of taxes and as comptroller of the quicksilver revenue. He was appointed cosmographer of New Spain, and as such commissioned in 1742, by the viceroy, Count de Fuenelara, to compile this history. Palau 368823; Sabin 99686. (2)
