FIRST EDITION of Williams's second (and first commercially published) book, of which 1000 copies were printed. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY WILLIAMS TO HIS CLOSE FRIEND, THE EDITOR ROBERT MCALMON on the front free endpaper: "Bob from Bill July 7 -1924." McAlmon and Williams had co-edited the journal Contact in 1920-21. McAlmon, born in Kansas City, moved to Paris and established Contact Editions as a leading alternative press. Some of the better known books from the press are Hemingway's first book Three Stories and Ten Poems and Stein's The Making of Americans. Contact published one of Williams's finest early works, Spring and All (see lot 245). Wallace A2.
