13 vols in 8 bindings, 8o. Upper corner of title-page to Vol. XII torn away, light foxing, very slight browning. Contemporary American half mottled calf over marbled boards, gilt-lettered red morocco spine labels, slight rubbing.
A COMPLETE RUN, IN ORIGINAL BINDINGS, OF THE JOURNALS OF THE CONGRESS, FROM REVOLUTION TO CONSTITUTION, issued by the government's successive printers Robert Aitken, John Patterson, John Dunlap and his partner David Claypoole. This set offers a rare opportunity to obtain a contemporary printing of the Declaration of Independence which was declared the authentic text by an En Banc vote of the Congress (including Jefferson) on 18 January 1777. There are numerous intriguing variations between Aitken's published version of the Declaration and the Dunlap broadsides. The series also includes minutes of the debates at the 1787 Constitutional Convention and a printing of the proposed Constitution. Together 8 items.
Complete sets, uniformly bound, of these historic Journals are very seldom encountered. (8)
