6 volumes, 8o (217 x 137 mm). Half-titles in vols. I and II. Over 200 fabric samples, numerous engravings in text, folding plates of the Crystal Palace, color plates in vol VI (lacking a few fabric samples, a few folding plates with tears at folds and repairs to versos). (Title-pages in all volumes repaired at lower margin, vols I and II with loss of text, paper sample on p. 69-70 of vol. II adhered to facing text page, subsequently torn with loss of text.) Later buckram, blue morocco spine labels.

A very fine set of volumes documenting various aspects, from wallpaper to fabrics, of decorative design. "The gratifying success of The Journal of Design is the result, we, feel, less of its undoubted novelty and cheapness than of its admitted utility to all branches of commerce influenced by ornamental design... the prosperous position of the Journal of Design is, we conceive, mainly due to the fact, that we have administered beneficially to a want long felt by that large public who are interested in the progress of the Decorative Manufactures of this country" (preface to vol. I). (6)
