FIRST EDITION of "one of the goriest mutinies in Pacific history" (Hill). The mutiny, led by Samuel Comstock ("The Terrible Whaleman") resulted in the bloody butchery of the four ship's officers and in the subsequent murder of Comstock and several mutineers by the natives of Mili Atoll. Included is a short vocabulary of the Marshall [i.e. Mulgrave] islands. Howes L-158; Hill, p.176; Sabin 39467.
