PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY DUJARDIN TO MARCEL CHIBAUD on the half-title: "À Marcel Chibaud pour ici à contribution Edouard Dujardin." James Joyce credited Dujardin with influencing his own stream-of-consciousness technique based on Dujardin's use of the interior monologue. Dujardin here provides his own history of the technique and its place within Joyce's work. Dujardin's novel Les Lauriers sont coupes (1888) is credited as the first to use it within the modern movement. (7)
