René Lalique experimented with many types of materials including glass, horn and ivory. When artistically compelled, Lalique utilized glass and resin that mimicked other materials. This brooch, created with French ivory, a simulated form of ivory, is a perfect example. The simulated materials allowed him freedom to create many different versions of similar motifs and juxtapose precious and semi-precious materials in one unique piece.
