Property from the Estate of Mrs. Charles W. Engelhard
Jane Engelhard was a woman of captivating style, whose philanthropic, artistic and political commitments included her positions as Trustee at the Metropolitan Museum, Trustee of the Pierpont Morgan Library, member of the Trust Fund Board of The Library of Congress, as well as being one of the founding members of Jacqueline Kennedy's committee for the restoration of the White House. Born in China and educated in Paris, Mrs. Engelhard was a fixture of New York society who regularly made best-dressed lists. A glamorous life shared with her husband, the millionaire industrialist Charles W. Engelhard, included involvement in the White House with the Kennedy and Johnson administrations, as well as maintaining homes in Manhattan, Florida London, Canada and Johannesburg. However, most of the couple's time was spent at Cragwood, their spectacular Far Hills, New Jersey estate, where they hosted a glamorous group of friends.
Christie's is pleased to offer a selection from Mrs. Engelhard's jewelry collection, including classic examples from the houses of Van Cleef & Arpels, David Webb and Bulgari.
