A PERSIAN BRONZE HANDLE IN THE FORM OF AN IBEX

The leaping ibex with knobbed terminals on the horns, mounted, 3¾ in. (9.5 cm.) high; a bronze pendant with four ibex head protomes around the base, two further heads at top of central ribbed stem, attachment ring above, early 1st millennium B.C., 2½ in. (6.3 cm.) high; a Luristan bronze standard finial with confronted rampant goats, early 1st millennium B.C., 3 5/8 in. (9.1 cm.) high; a Roman bronze gazelle pendant, standing with three pendant bells below the base, with circle decoration, a suspension loop on shoulder, 2 7/8 in. (7.3 cm.) high; and two other similar gazelle pendants, bells missing, 2 1/8 in. (5.4 cm.) high max., 1st-2nd Century A.D. or earlier (6)

Animals, 1996, III, nos. 236 and 244 (items four and one). It is noted that similar pendants to item four have been found at Dura-Europus, where they were used either on necklaces or as earring drops; these types of pendants can be of Roman date or earlier.
