A LATE ROMAN MARBLE IDEALIZED FEMALE HEAD
CIRCA 3RD-4TH CENTURY A.D.
The wavy hair parted in the centre and drawn back, with articulated pupils and polished cheeks, traces of red pigment around the eyes and hairline, lower half broken away, the head probably of earlier date but re-carved in the 3rd-4th Century A.D.

Private collection: by descent through an Alexandrian family, prior to 1956.
