The design for this mirror incorporating a festooned urn, husk-draped oval frame and elaborately scrolled base relates to the drawings executed by John Linnell in the 1770s (see H. Hayward, 'The Drawings of John Linnell', Furniture History, 1969, figs. 90, 92 and 126). Similar designs were also produced by the firm of Gillows (such as one dated 1788). A pair of large scale mirrors of a similar design with outer mirrored borders was sold in these Rooms, 19 October 2000, lot 164.
