The 12 inch brass dial with bird and vase spandrels and silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with fleur-de-lys half hour markers, matted center engraved with doves, with subsidiary second, ring and date aperture, later hands, signed William Barrow, London in the arch, the five-pillar rack striking movement with anchor escapement and strike on bell; surmounted by a stepped bonnet with urn-form finials to sides over a glazed door flanked by inset columns above a rectangular case with arched central door, over a plinth base and later bracket feet, replacements to back boards

Lot Essay

William Barrow, son of William John Barrow was active circa 1700 and became a freeman of the Clockmaker's Company in 1710. A lacquer longcase clock is in the Nordiske Museum in Stockholm and three further longcase clocks are in the National Museum, Stockholm.
