This desk is after a model supplied to Mereworth Castle, Kent which was sold Christie's, London, 23 May 1968, lot 119 and now belongs to the Bank of England (C. Claxton-Stevens and S. Whittington, 18th Century English Furniture: The Norman Adams Collection, 1983, p. 113). Thomas Sheraton published a design for a 'Library table' of similar form but with writing supports to each end in his Drawing Book of 1793, pl. 30. Another of this model was sold Christie's New York, 30 April 1997, lot 63.
