A rare 19th-Century brass and walnut Ramsden-pattern electrostatic machine, unsigned, but probably by Pixii, the 33cm. (13in.) diameter glass disc held between two pairs of leather-covered pads in a walnut frame with turning handle (finial missing), the two brass conductors each with a U-shaped comb with red-painted ball ends and each raised on two glass columns from the walnut base -- 59cm. (23¼in.) wide; with a 4-jar battery in a compartmentalised mahogany box with two brass carrying rings, each covered with silver foil and containing silver and gold foil, sealed with red wax, the brass ball finials connected by a brass rod cross with suspension loop, the three larger jars -- 15.5cm. (6 1/8in.) high; together with three hooked brass conductors for hanging the jars, two larger leyden jars containing gold and silver foil with hooked conductors, a tin water-expansion jar painted blue with gilt trim containing a second tin jar with matching top, the side painted with coloured rings, and an ebonised wooden insulation stool with green glass legs
