A Chinese blue and white armorial charger, Kangxi
decorated to the centre with a long tailed pheasant on rockwork beneath a flowering branch, below a crest resembling a standing figure holding a sprig and the arms of Pelgrans, flanked by large lotus sprays and cartouches of other flowers - 15 3/8in. (38.8cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

Jacob Pelgrans, Director of the Dutch East India Company was resident in Bengal from 1702-08 (when the service was probably commisioned). He died in Batavia in 1713.
