The present view is most probably a composite Worcestershire landscape. The low horizon line is typical of Leader's Worcestershire landscapes painted in the flat Vale of Evesham to the south east and south west of Worcester. Although the painting has a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere Leader subtly includes signs of a thriving rural life. As the light falls, cottagers return from their labours in the fields; a punt, full of reeds used for thatch is being secured to the bank for the night, and a woman kneels by her wicker basket gathering in the laundry which has been drying on the hedge.
